“Draw me!”  Your soul sings this song to God (Songs 1:4).   Even when you don’t feel it.

The soul’s song might be perceived in silence, like the silence of Bethlehem’s crib, if God grants it.  

The world is in chaos.  But God attracts us to himself by becoming Peace in the humble and healing Word-made-Flesh, Jesus Christ.   “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:16).  

God’s Word is always with us.  He cannot be absent.   But when God’s Word became human in Jesus, something new happened.  Jesus’ birth through the Virgin Mary made God’s Face visible.  “We never saw anything like this” (Mark 2:12)!   The shepherd boys ran to Jesus when angels appeared.  “Let’s go to the Bethlehem,” they said, “and see this thing that happened, which the Lord has made known to us” (Luke 2:15).

Christmas reveals God to us.  It reveals us to ourselves.  “It is only in the mystery of the Word-made-flesh that the mystery of man truly becomes clear” (Second Vatican Council, Gaudium et Spes, 22).    

Embrace the gift and innocence of your Baptism this Christmas.  Make a good confession, if need be.  Receive Holy Communion with intimate affection for the Christ who lives, loves, dies, and rises in you.   Contemplate deeply the life and light of Christ in your Baptism, in yourself.  Christ will make you Hope’s outward-looking missionary in our troubled and disillusioned world.  The world needs the Christ in you!

¡Feliz Navidad!

"¡Dibújame!"  Tu alma canta este cántico a Dios (Cantares 1:4).   Incluso cuando no lo sientes.

El canto del alma puede ser percibido en el silencio, como el silencio del pesebre de Belén, si Dios lo concede.  

El mundo es un caos.  Pero Dios nos atrae hacia sí mismo al convertirse en Paz en el humilde y sanador Verbo hecho Carne, Jesucristo.   "El Verbo se hizo carne y habitó entre nosotros" (Juan 1:16).  

La Palabra de Dios siempre está con nosotros.  No puede estar ausente.   Pero cuando la Palabra de Dios se hizo humana en Jesús, algo nuevo sucedió.  El nacimiento de Jesús a través de la Virgen María hizo visible el rostro de Dios.  "Nunca vimos nada igual" (Marcos 2:12).   Los pastorcitos corrieron hacia Jesús cuando aparecieron los ángeles.  "Vayamos a Belén", dijeron, "y veamos esto que ha sucedido, que el Señor nos ha dado a conocer" (Lucas 2:15).

La Navidad nos revela a Dios.  Nos revela a nosotros mismos.  "Sólo en el misterio del Verbo hecho carne se esclarece verdaderamente el misterio del hombre" (Concilio Vaticano II, Gaudium et spes, 22).    

Abraza el don y la inocencia de tu Bautismo esta Navidad.  Haz una buena confesión, si es necesario.  Recibid la Santa Comunión con íntimo afecto por el Cristo que vive, ama, muere y resucita en vosotros.   Contempla profundamente la vida y la luz de Cristo en tu Bautismo, en ti mismo.  Cristo te hará el misionero de la Esperanza que mira hacia afuera en nuestro mundo atribulado y desilusionado.  ¡El mundo necesita al Cristo en ti!
